Resumo: O objetivo desta pesquisa é investigar as relações retóricas estabelecidas pelo conectivo E em um corpus constituído de um texto do português arcaico. Os objetivos específicos são analisar com que freqüência cada relação ocorre, investigar se há outras marcas formais que acompanham cada relação e analisar a posição do núcleo e do satélite. A hipótese é de que o conectivo E estabeleça várias relações retóricas, assim como ocorre no português contemporâneo. Para tanto, analisamos o texto a partir dos seguintes procedimentos: realizamos um levantamento de quantas vezes cada relação ocorreu no texto, observamos a posição do núcleo e do satélite presente nas relações e se há outras marcas formais que acompanham o E na estrutura gramatical, as quais auxiliam na determinação do tipo de relação. Como resultado, observamos que no texto emergem as relações de Seqüência, Lista, Contraste, Resultado, Causa, Motivação e Propósito e que as de Seqüência e de Lista ocorrem em maior número que as demais. A posição do núcleo e do satélite se mantém de acordo com o tipo de relação e, nessas relações, somente a de Resultado não apresentou, em todas as ocorrências, marca formal que ajudasse a defini-la. Esses resultados indicam que, desde o período arcaico da língua, o conectivo E estabelece relações retóricas que extrapolam as relações de Lista e de Seqüência, embora essas duas relações ainda sejam as mais recorrentes, reafirmando que o E possui um valor muito forte de seqüenciador e de listagem de porções textuais. Abstract: The objective from this work is to propose an investigation from the relations established by E on archaic Portuguese corpus. The specific objectives are to analyze how often each relation occurs, if there are other marks that accompany each formal relation and analyze the position of the nucleus and satellite. The hypothesis is that the connective E establish various rhetorical relations, so, we based our work on the following steps: we did a survey of how many times each relations occurred in the text, we observe the position of the nucleus and satellite present in relations and observe if there are other words or expressions that accompany the E in grammatical structure and help to establish the relation type. As a result, we observe that the text emerge relations Sequence, List, Contrast, Result, Cause, Motivation and Purpose. The Sequence and List occur in greater numbers than the rest. The position of the nucleus and the satellite keep the same according to the type of relationship, and those relation, not only the result showed, in all instances had formal marks that helped define it. These results indicate that since the language archaic period E establishes the connective relationships that go beyon the rhetorical List and Sequence, even though these two relationships are the most recurrent. This fact reaffirms that E is a very strong in link sequence and lists portions of text.
